Personal Project
How can I reveal the hidden messages, unconscious urges, and Zeitgeist of our contemporary society through deconstructing the “news” it constantly creates? This is an ongoing personal project. Every few weeks I buy the Sunday print edition of The New York Times and go through it with a large black marker blacking out parts of headlines to create new statements that I feel somehow address or represent a point of tension or evil in contemporary culture.
This project currently exists as a website regularly updated with the new headlines as I create them. Its a real time portrait of our cultures festering psychic wounds. One day I intend to collect it all and publish it as a physical printed newspaper that I will give out in downtown San Francisco for free dressed as an old timey news boy who yells, “Extra extra! End of the world read all about it!”
